The JR Group has commenced work on a major new housing development in Whitehill, Hamilton, delivering 24 high-quality council homes on the former St. Paul’s Church site on Back Muir Road.

The project will provide 12 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom flats, purposely designed to meet a variety of housing needs across the local area. The new properties will include features suitable for older residents and individuals with mobility challenges, alongside homes for general needs tenants.

Developed on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council and supported by the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme, the Backmuir Road project marks another significant investment in affordable homes for the region.

Representatives from The JR Group joined Councillor Davie McLachlan, Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, and council officials to mark the start of construction.

“When complete, these flats will be a welcome addition to the council’s housing stock in this area.

“The important thing is that we are making a difference by providing more affordable social housing, of a variety that meets the needs of local people while maintaining affordability and value for money.”

Located in the heart of the community, the Backmuir Road site is well connected to public transport, schools, and local amenities.
