Bellway Thames Gateway has broken ground on a new development of 532 homes on the former Northfleet Cement Works.
Construction work is now underway at Harbour Village, off The Creek, which will feature 372 new homes for private sale alongside 160 affordable properties available for local people through rent or shared ownership.
The development will form part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City project, which is regenerating land south of the River Thames, with plans to create approximately 15,000 homes as well as commercial units, shops, employment land, parks and public open space.
A ground-breaking ceremony held at Harbour Village on Wednesday 22 June was attended by a group of around 25 people representing Bellway Thames Gateway and Ebbsfleet Development Corporation – the organisation set up by the Government to deliver the wider project.
A seven-strong team from Bellway Thames Gateway, including Managing Director Tom Sherriff, Construction Director John Haggerstone, and Planning Director Jamie MacArthur, was joined by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation’s Chairman Simon Dudley, Non-Executive Director Neil Cameron QC, and Chief Executive Ian Piper.
Tom Sherriff, Managing Director of Bellway Thames Gateway, said: “The ground-breaking at Harbour Village represents a significant milestone for Bellway and the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City project.
“It was good to be able to mark the occasion by inviting a delegation from Ebbsfleet Development Corporation along to discuss our exciting plans to help transform this brownfield site into a vibrant new neighbourhood.
“We are proud to be regenerating this disused cement works site and playing a key role in the ambitious plan to provide thousands of much-needed new homes to the area. We are working closely with Ebbsfleet Development Corporation to make sure this project is a success.
“At Harbour Village we will be building a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two to four-bedroom houses designed to meet the requirements of a wide range of homebuyers in the area, as well as new green open space for residents to enjoy.”
