Health Charity Receives £1,500 Donation From Nottinghamshire Housebuilder

Nottingham-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). JDRF UK is the national branch of the global charity JDRF, which is committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes for all ages.

The funds donated will cover the costs for an upcoming Discovery Day run by the charity, where its team will provide information and support for up to 200 people who are living with type 1 diabetes across the UK.

The donation came as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Terence Lovell, Fundraising and Engagement Directorat JDRF UK, said: “We are so grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for their generous donation of £1,500 which will make a huge difference to our work at JDRF and the lives of those affected by type 1 diabetes.”

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the pancreas stops producing insulin – a hormone that allows the body to get energy from food. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and symptoms can include frequent urination, extreme thirst, dry mouth, fatigue and weakness, increased appetite, and unexplained weight loss.

According to JDRF, there are over 400,000 people currently living with type 1 diabetes in the UK, including around 29,000 children.

Ever since it first launched in 1970, the charity helps to support everyone living with type 1 diabetes, by working with policy makers to increase the availability of treatments, and by providing information and resources to help people manage their condition.

JDRF-funded research has led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment, which is laying the foundations for a cure of the chronic disease.
