nmcn secures flagship Southside Public Realm scheme

nmcn, a construction and infrastructure specialist, has been appointed by Birmingham City Council to deliver the civil engineering works as part of the estimated £9.5 million Southside Public Realm transformation project in Birmingham’s City Centre. 

The project, which is due to commence in April 2021 for 12 months, will see large-scale redevelopment of the Southside District in the city centre, with work including:

• High quality paving between Hill Street, Hurst Street and Ladywell Walk
• The creation of a new pedestrianised square on Hurst Street to be used for event space
• Enhancements of street furniture, upgrading lighting and the provision of new trees
• Improvement of the pedestrian crossing facility at the Smallbrook Queensway Junction
• Improved segregation of the existing contraflow cycleway on Hill Street.

Vip Gandhi, Managing Director of nmcn’s Infrastructure team said: “This project will transform the Southside area of the city centre and will make a real difference in attracting new visitors and tourists.

nmcn’s appointment to the Southside scheme follows the company’s success in other similar public realm projects - notably the award-winning Grey to Green regeneration project in Sheffield City Centre.
