Anwyl Submits Plans For New Homes And Local Centre In Alsager

Plans to transform a former quarry site in Alsager into a new neighbourhood featuring homes and community facilities have been submitted.

Anwyl Homes has lodged a hybrid planning application with Cheshire East Council for just over 54 acres of land at White Moss Quarry, off Crewe Road.

If approved, the development could deliver up to 400 new homes, alongside a care home and a local centre featuring small-scale commercial and community uses. The site is allocated in the Cheshire East Local Plan for residential development.

Mark Calvert, managing director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said: “White Moss is a key allocated site within the Cheshire East Local Plan and presents an opportunity to bring much-needed new homes to Alsager, alongside a range of community and commercial facilities.

“We held a public consultation earlier this year and carefully considered the feedback received to help shape our proposals before submitting the planning application. Our aim is to create a well-balanced, sustainable development that delivers benefits for both existing and future residents.”

The application seeks full planning permission for the demolition of existing buildings, site-wide engineering works, construction of new homes, and the creation of areas of public open space.

An outline application element covers land for future commercial and community uses, including a care home.

The proposed homes are a mix of one to four-bedroom designs, with affordable housing provision to be agreed with Cheshire East Council.

Formerly operated as a quarry, the site would be comprehensively regenerated as part of the proposals. Extensive engineering and landscaping would deliver significant environmental and visual enhancements.

“Our plans will see the long-term restoration of the site into a high-quality, mixed-use development,” Mark added.

“As a family-run business, we focus on creating places where people want to live, with well-designed homes, open spaces and facilities that support a strong sense of community. This includes new play areas, green spaces and improvements to existing public rights of way.”

The proposed scheme would also feature two formal play areas, including a neighbourhood equipped play area and a multi-use games area, along with extensive landscaping and amenity space.

In addition to meeting local housing need, the development is expected to generate jobs during the construction phase and increase spending in the local economy, as well as delivering new council tax and business rates revenue.

Anwyl has previously delivered developments across Cheshire East, including in Crewe and Shavington, and is currently building new homes in Congleton, Nantwich and Sandbach.

Subject to approval, the first new homes in Alsager could be ready for occupation from late 2028.
