Detailed plans for four new housing developments in Kings Hill, which will bring approximately 400 new homes to the area, have been submitted to the local authority.
Bellway acquired four parcels of land at the former RAF West Malling airfield earlier this year, which will form part of the wider Kings Hill regeneration scheme.
The four developments are all situated on the northern edges of Kings Hill and will be named:
- The Retreat, located off Kings Hill Avenue, and bordered by woodland to the north, with plans submitted for 70 one and two-bedroom apartments and communal gardens
- DeHavilland Place, off Jubilee Way, with plans for 180 homes ranging in size from one to five bedrooms
- Jubilee Place, off Malling Road, with plans submitted for 70 one and two-bedroom apartments and communal gardens
- Liberty Quarter, located to the north of the new public park off Kings Hill Avenue and to the south of woodland, with plans for 52 two, three and four-bedroom homes.
As well as providing much-needed new homes for private sale, The Retreat, DeHavilland Place and Jubilee Place will include 40 per cent affordable housing available for local people through rent or shared ownership.
The new developments follow the success of Bellway’s Lysander Fields development, off Park Drive in Kings Hill, where construction of 70 new homes is nearing the final stages.
Lysander Fields was named after the Westland Lysander which flew from the airfield during the Second World War, and DeHavilland Place, which is named after the de Havilland Mosquitoes also based at RAF West Malling during the war, continues the aviation theme.
Mark Harrop, Sales Director for Bellway Kent, said: “We are progressing at pace with our plans to provide much-needed new homes in Kings Hill, with our detailed applications for all four sites now with the local authority for consideration.
“The contribution that this location has played in the history of our country is recognised in some of the names we have given our forthcoming developments – DeHavilland, Liberty and Jubilee – as we play our part in creating a new legacy for the site.
“Since the redevelopment of the airfield began 30 years ago, Bellway has taken a significant role in the regeneration of this area and throughout our journey, we have been committed to delivering a wide-range of homes that will benefit a variety of buyers.
“We are hoping to start commencing work later this year subject to planning approval, and we will be releasing further updates in due course.”
The wider regeneration of the former RAF West Malling began in 1990 and has so far created a neighbourhood of than 3,500 new homes, three new schools, 23 shops, parks, community facilities and one million square feet of commercial floor space.
