Laing O’Rourke confirmed as Government Strategic Supplier

Dec 14, 2020

Laing O’Rourke has been officially onboarded by the Cabinet Office as a Government
Strategic Supplier, with immediate effect.

The decision follows a thorough process of information sharing and was confirmed at a
meeting of the Cabinet Office’s Commercial Relationships Board on 1 December.

It means the company will work with an appointed crown representative as part of the
Government’s new approach to monitoring and managing strategic suppliers via a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The crown representatives help the
Government act as a single customer when engaging suppliers.

The company’s selection as a Strategic Supplier comes as the Government finalises
plans to transform investment in vital infrastructure, including the School Rebuilding
Programme (SRP), the delivery of 40 new hospitals by 2030, new nuclear facilities and
rail projects.

These are all sectors in which Laing O’Rourke has a strong track record of delivery. It has
recently completed several new schools in Yorkshire, the Manchester Metrolink and, in
November, The Grange University Hospital in South Wales, which was built using modern
methods of construction and handed over to the health board four months early and
with zero defects.

John O’Connor, Group Commercial Director at Laing O’Rourke, said: “We are delighted
to have secured Strategic Supplier status. It is exciting news and reflects both the health
of our business and our strong track record of delivery using our DfMA led approach.
We look forward to working with Government to deliver the infrastructure the country
needs and building back greener, faster and better.”
