Civic, the team of system thinkers in the built environment, continues to strengthen its building services engineering and sustainability team with a series of senior hires in Manchester and London.
Nathaniel Hague has joined as associate director in Manchester, having worked as a chartered mechanical engineer for more than a decade. Nathaniel specialises in delivering innovative, low-energy building solutions across a range of sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare and co-living developments, and previously worked at Atelier Ten.
Joining Civic in London is Caroline Webb, associate, and mechanical and electrical engineer. Caroline has extensive design experience with a focus on cultural and heritage buildings, and at Civic is working on a broad range of projects, from the refurbishment of two listed hotels in London, to residential-led regeneration in Sheffield.
In addition, Gavril Borovanski joins in London as associate electrical engineer, with experience in listed buildings, residential, museums, commercial developments and transport infrastructure, advising on electrical, lighting, security, and fire alarm systems from concept to construction.
Also joining Civic as senior mechanical engineers are Lewis Hughes in Manchester, and Benedict Holland in London. With a combined total of 13 years’ industry experience, they both work on the building services design for a broad mix of residential developments, Grade I and II buildings and commercial projects such as offices, restaurants, bars and hotels.
It’s the latest series of hires for the growing team. Over the last six months, the team has more than doubled its headcount, including welcoming Olivier Boennec as a technical director in London earlier this year.
Dan Watt, director of building services and sustainability at Civic in Manchester, said: “It’s been a fantastic year for our building services team here at Civic. Our growth reflects both our ambition and our commitment to system thinking, bringing together a brilliantly talented team to have an even greater impact. We’re pleased to welcome Nathaniel, Caroline, Gavril, Lewis and Benedict, they’re all fantastic additions with considerable experience. It’s a pleasure to have them on board as we work on an exciting breadth of projects across the UK and Ireland, from individual buildings through to large-scale regeneration.”
In Civic’s London studio, Rob Harris, director of building services and sustainability, added: “We’re seeing a real uptick in demand from the market, for building services that combine technical excellence with added value, which is where our system thinking approach comes in. This centres around providing our clients experienced building services leadership but also empathetic client-focused solutions. There’s huge opportunity for it in the hotel, leisure, and commercial sectors in London, for example, and a strong pipeline of regeneration and residential schemes across the North. We pride ourselves on helping clients make projects both more viable and sustainable, creating simple solutions to interact with, use and maintain environments. We look forward to supporting many landmark projects to come with our strengthened team and thank our collaborators and clients who have supported us on this journey to date.”
Civic has gained a reputation for providing low carbon sustainable design solutions for clients, with current work including Capital & Centric’s iconic Littlewoods building project in Liverpool, the regeneration of Cannon Brewery in Sheffield into a mixed-use, residential-led masterplan, Leeds City Village, Collyhurst Village, Trafford Wharf in Manchester and Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport.
The Building Services and Sustainability team provides performance focused, innovative and practical engineering design that reduces the environmental impact of buildings and infrastructure in the built environment, to the benefit of the clients and communities they serve. Its services include mechanical, electrical and public health engineering design, energy and low carbon strategies and a full suite of environmental and sustainability services.
