Celebrating the wonderful Jewish festival of Tu B’Shvat, Canary Wharf Group will be hosting a special tree planting ceremony for the local Jewish community in the lush Crossrail Place Roof Garden in Canary Wharf on Wednesday 31st January.
Tu B’Shvat, meaning ‘New Year of Trees’, occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat and is fast becoming a joyous tradition at the Canary Wharf estate. Believed to originally mark the emergence of spring, the festival was also used for calculating the correct time of the year for tithing produce.
The tree planting ceremony will be followed by a delicious lunch, kindly sponsored by CWG, in the prestigious Clifford Chance offices. And in keeping with the spirit of philanthropy, fruit packages will be handed to all attendees and local schools will deliver additional fruit packages to local day centres and homes for the elderly, encouraging the unique connection between the young and elderly.
Danny Seliger, Canary Wharf Group said: “As part of Canary Wharf Group’s on going dedication to supporting the Jewish faith, we always look forward to celebrating the festivities on the Estate. Tu B’Shvat is a time for new beginnings and celebration and we wanted to do something special to commemorate it. The unique tree planting ceremony is in keeping with this and serves as a fitting reminder all year round. Our beautiful roof garden in Crossrail Place is open to the public so anyone can come to view the tree grow over the coming years.”
