VolkerStevin has been appointed to both Lot 1 and Lot 2 on Severn Trent Water’s £2bn AMP7 investment framework.
VolkerStevin and Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, have been appointed under a joint venture, VSA+, as one of seven successful contractors on Lot 1.
The joint venture will see the two companies work together to deliver the detailed design and construction of new water assets for Severn Trent Water’s 8 million customers in the Midlands region and their new business Hafren Dyfrdwy, which serves parts of Wales. Atkins will be bringing their design expertise to the partnership, while VolkerStevin will be providing their capabilities in project delivery.
VolkerStevin and Atkins have a proven track record of collaborating, having previously joined forces for the likes of the Environment Agency’s Water and Environment Management framework which has delivered over 100 projects during the last six years.
VolkerStevin has also been appointed to Lot 2, a civil engineering build-only framework.
Rob Coupe, managing director at VolkerStevin, said: “We are looking forward to working with Severn Trent Water and bringing both our experience and expertise of working with other water utility companies; as well as across other sectors, where we have achieved industry leading customer experience, and have consistently outperformed against efficiency targets.”
Richard Whale, water market director at SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business, said: “As engineers, we’re excited by the opportunity to support Severn Trent Water further to enhance the quality of its customer services and increase the levels of protection afforded to the environment. AMP7 undoubtedly requires a step change in innovation, and I very much look forward to working with VolkerStevin in delivering our shared commitment for enhanced levels of programme efficiency.”
Work is scheduled to begin in 2019, running through to 2024. Thanks to Severn Trent Water’s AMP7 Business Plan receiving fast-track status from water regulators Ofwat, Severn Trent Water are in a great position to begin their AMP7 investment, giving VolkerStevin, an early start on the planning stages.
