VolkerHighways has been awarded a street lighting installation and maintenance contract with Torbay Council, worth £400,000. The contract began on 1 August 2019 and will continue for eight months.

The contract comprises the maintenance of 18,000 lighting assets, including approx. 15,000 street lights and 3,000 illuminated signs. This will extend VolkerHighways’ coverage of the South West of the UK, following the award of their highways term maintenance contract with Bath and North East Somerset Council, as well as a three year street lighting term maintenance contract with Bristol City Council, last year.

Alistair Thompson, managing director of VolkerHighways, said: “We are delighted to be starting this new collaboration with Torbay Council, which will expand on our existing presence in the South West region. I look forward to working with the council on this exciting new opportunity over the coming months.”

Councillor Mike Morey, Torbay Council’s cabinet member for infrastructure, environment and culture, said: “We are pleased to hear that this essential maintenance contract has been awarded and we look forward to working with VolkerHighways over the next eight months.”
