The JR Group has officially started work on a significant new housing development in Burnbank, Hamilton, delivering 24 high-quality council homes on the former site of St Cuthbert’s Church in Reid Street.
The project marks another important milestone in the company’s continued partnership with South Lanarkshire Council to expand the supply of affordable, modern homes across the region.

The development will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom flats, as well as two-bedroom mid-terraced and end-terraced houses. Each property has been thoughtfully designed to support a variety of housing needs, with several homes incorporating features tailored for older residents and those with mobility challenges.

The project forms part of the council’s ongoing investment in its housing stock and is jointly funded by South Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme.

This is the second project The JR Group has started work on in the region alongside South Lanarkshire Council with development also commencing at the town’s Backmuir Road in recent weeks.

Councillor Davie McLachlan, Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, joined representatives from The JR Group and council officials to mark the beginning of construction.

Andrew Dallas, Projects Director for The JR Group, said: “It is fantastic to officially begin work at Reid Street and to continue our positive working relationship with South Lanarkshire Council.

“This development will deliver high-quality, affordable homes that genuinely benefit the community. Alongside the nearby Backmuir Road project, we are proud to play a part in enhancing the local housing provision and look forward to handing over the completed homes in 2027.”

Construction is expected to take around 17 months, with the homes scheduled for completion in early 2027.

Founded in Govan in 1995, The JR Group started as a scaffolding business and has grown to become one of Scotland’s largest building and construction firms – employing around 200 staff. The JR Group has a proven track record of delivering outstanding projects for leading UK housebuilders, registered social landlords and private clients across Scotland and the North of England.
