Network Space agrees land sale on planned 215-home site near Barnsley

Network Space has exchanged contracts for the sale of a 19-acre site at Shaw Lane, Carlton, near Barnsley, with outline planning consent for up to 215 homes.

The site is being brought forward by Vistry, the UK’s leading provider of mixed-tenure homes, for an undisclosed sum. Allocated in Barnsley Council Local Plan for mixed use housing and green space, Vistry will now secure a reserved matters planning approval before completing the acquisition.

Of the 215 homes earmarked for the scheme, Vistry will look to work with a Registered Provider to deliver up to 50% of the homes on site as affordable housing, with a further £1 million contribution earmarked to support improvements to local education facilities. The plans also include highway upgrades, enhanced biodiversity measures, and new public access links designed to strengthen connections with the surrounding area.

Footpaths are also being widened and a new pedestrian crossing will be installed at the entrance of the development, giving access to the popular Trans Pennine Trail. It is also hoped the wider development will include new links to existing public rights of way and offer scope for additional pedestrian access to Barnsley Canal.
