An award-winning construction project manager has achieved awards success again for his work at Bellway’s landmark Goodsyard development in Bishop’s Stortford.

42-year-old Steve Cutting, who started in the industry as a labourer at 18, has been given a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC).

The awards recognise those who achieve the highest standards in construction, with only 443 out of 8,000 site managers across the country being selected to receive the prize this year. The winners will now be considered for the Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn.

Steve, who already has two Seal of Excellence awards to his name, said: “Bellway has a great reputation as a builder of top-quality new homes and that is what I aspire to every day that I come into work.

“I am indebted to Bellway for trusting me to deliver the Goodsyard project. This is a very prestigious development where we are playing a key role in a £200 million scheme to regenerate a high-profile site in the centre of Bishop’s Stortford.

“This award recognises the excellent work and maximum effort that myself and all of the team on site have put in. This site is a showcase for Bellway as it is the first thing that people see when they come out of the train station at Bishop’s Stortford, so it is satisfying to know that we are getting things right.”

After starting his working life as a labourer, Steve then worked as forklift truck driver and a storeman before taking exams and being offered a job as an assistant site manager. He joined Bellway as an assistant site manager in 2007.

As well as his success in the Pride in Job awards, Steve has also won the Considerate Constructors award for two years running and was runner-up in the 2019 national NHBC Health and Safety awards.

“Part of the secret to success is to surround yourself with good people who share your enthusiasm and dedication to the job,” said Steve. “I am very lucky to have a brilliant team which consists of my site manager Denis Agnew, my assistant manager Kaylea Burns, foreman Nigel Thomas and newly-promoted finishing foreman Theo Ungureanu.

“Not only do I have the backing of this great team, but I have been able to retain a number of excellent tradesmen. Bellway is a fabulous company to work for and I am looking forward to trying to maintain these standards to win more awards with my colleagues and to deliver this very impressive development in Bishop’s Stortford.”

Rob Sapsford, Construction Director for Bellway North London, said: “For our site managers, winning an NHBC award in any year is rewarding, but this year has been a special achievement in such challenging circumstances, ensuring our building sites are kept to the highest standards we set ourselves at Bellway, and keeping our customers and local residents happy with the work we are doing across those sites.

“Steve and his team have consistently demonstrated their excellence in delivering new homes to our customers over the past 12 months and Bellway is extremely proud of and grateful for his efforts, resulting in the Quality Award he has been deservingly given by NHBC. We would wish Steve all the very best for the next stage of the NHBC awards this year, as he progresses to the Seal of Excellence phase of judging.”

Bellway is building 149 homes at The Exchange at Goodsyard, where there is a choice of one-bedroom apartments available to reserve, with prices starting at £260,000.

A second phase of 174 apartments at Southside Locks at Goodsyard is set to launch this summer, with 128 properties available for private buyers. For more information about the new homes at Goodsyard call 01279 945851 or visit https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/north-london/goodsyard.
