NEW RIVERSIDE DEVELOPMENT

Jan 26, 2018

R G Carter recently completed the Whisstocks project in Woodbridge involving the redevelopment of a previous boat yard. 15 high quality apartments, alongside a new heritage building (museum) and boat shed have been built in its place.

The Woodbridge Riverside Trust will reconstruct a full size replica of the Anglo-Saxon boat found at Sutton Hoo, just across the river. The site also includes three commercial / retail units and a chandlery (restaurant) building.

The external larch façade and choice of cladding material used was in keeping with the previous use of the site, which was a well-known boat building yard.

This complex project involved working in-between both the tidal river Deben and also a regional rail line. Part of the works included the construction of state-of-the-art glass flood gates, which will be closed during high tides.

The development created a large amount of interest within the community with part of the site being used by a local community group to stage the Kings River Opera last summer.

Julian Wells, Co-founder and Director of FW Properties said: “We are delighted with the completed scheme at Whisstocks which looks even better than we had imagined it would. We have enjoyed working with R G Carter in delivering this development. It has presented numerous challenges along the way which in case have been fully considered and resolved”.
