Higgins has completed the design and build of 68 new flats and houses at Peterhead Court, Southall for Ealing Council.
Higgins was awarded the £18 million contract to replace 20 existing sub-standard homes on the Golf Links Estate, built in the 1970s, with 68 new homes for affordable rent and sale to first time buyers. A new purpose built community centre has also been delivered to replace the successful centre, which has been using temporary porta cabins for the past 30 years.
Golf Links Estate was identified in 2008 as one of the handful of high intervention estates in need of regeneration to bring it in line with the government’s Decent Homes standard.
Steve Leakey, Managing Director for Higgins comments, “Our work at Peterhead Court has delivered much needed homes for local people and demonstrates our commitment to building new communities that are stronger, safer and more sustainable. We have also created employment opportunities for local people on the site through our training and apprenticeship schemes.”
An Ealing Council spokesman said: “Working with Higgins Construction, we have now completed 68 new homes on the Peterhead Court site at the Golf Links estate in Southall. Many of the new homes have been let to existing estate residents, at rent levels well within the means of the average family in Ealing. Some of the homes will be sold to first time buyers to help them onto the property ladder. “The project has also provided a new purpose-built community centre and nursery for local people. The development will count towards our ambitious plans to create 2,500 new genuinely affordable homes by March 2022 – London’s biggest council homebuilding programme.”
