When Co-op Live unveiled Canalside, the new 2,000 sqft hospitality space on Manchester’s Etihad Campus, it marked another important step for the UK’s largest live indoor arena and a shining example of sustainability in commercial design. Over an eight-month build, Better Green Living took the lead on both the design and project management, working closely with a trusted network of partners to bring the multi-functional venue to life.
The result is a dynamic, contemporary space that blends creativity, community, and connection while setting a benchmark for environmentally conscious construction in the entertainment sector. From the outset, sustainability was at the heart of the project. Better Green Living managed the process in-house, drawing on its experienced team and collaborating with Universal Containers for fabrication, Framos for aluminium cladding, Biomass for steel works, SD Lifts for lift installation, and ATD Electrical for lighting and distribution.

Canalside sits within the wider Etihad Campus, a hub for sport, music, and community life that continues to evolve. The new addition provides a welcoming social space for concertgoers, event attendees, and local residents, enhancing the visitor experience while contributing to Co-op Live’s long-term sustainability vision.
Guy Dunstan, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Co-op Live, said the development captures the spirit of the arena perfectly, stating: “The opening of Canalside marks the next chapter in the growth of the Etihad Campus. We are proud to create a space that blends community, creativity and connection, while also continuing to enhance the experience for our ticket holders.”
Roel de Vries, Group Chief Operating Officer for City Football Group, added: “Canalside is the latest addition to the arena and the Etihad Campus, and as joint venture partners in Co-op Live we’re delighted to see the opening of a space that local residents and visitors can enjoy during the week. From the space you get fantastic views across to the £300 million Etihad Stadium development, which will be completed next year. We’re excited about this next evolution of the campus and look forward to welcoming people 365 days a year.”
