Balfour Beatty, Warwickshire County Council, and the Veteran Contact Point yesterday welcomed His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to the newly refurbished Veteran Contact Point community project in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
His Royal Highness visited the centre to acknowledge the work of the charity, which aims to support Veterans in Coventry and Warwickshire reintegrate into civilian life, whilst offering free support sessions including interview and IT skills workshops, combat stress training as well as helping to find shelter for the homeless.
The project, part-funded by Balfour Beatty, saw the company modernise and upgrade the existing building; equipping the facility with disabled access, an extension to the building as well as a new driveway.
Dean Banks, Chief Executive Officer of Balfour Beatty’s UK Construction Services business, said: “It was an honour to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to the official opening of the Veteran Contact Point centre today.
“As Gold members of the Armed Forces Covenant, we have a clear commitment to providing our Veterans with opportunities while also supporting them to successfully integrate into civilian life. Having funded the project through community donations, we hope that the facility will help those in need for many years to come.”
Balfour Beatty is a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, a framework for businesses in the UK to ensure that veterans, reservists and their partners are treated fairly in the workplace and are fully integrated into the wider community once they have left service.
Through its membership, Balfour Beatty is committed to providing ex-service people with careers in the construction and infrastructure industry. To find out more about available opportunities, please click here.
