Network Rail has been ranked 4th in the Department for Education's Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list for 2026, climbing 18 places in a year.
The annual list, which recognises employers across England that demonstrate excellence in apprenticeship programmes, highlights Network Rail's continued commitment to developing skilled talent across the rail industry.
Network Rail takes on hundreds of apprentices each year across a wide range of disciplines, from engineering and track maintenance to project management and signalling. Apprentices work on live infrastructure projects from day one, gaining hands-on experience while working towards nationally recognised qualifications.
Richard Turner, Network Rail’s Head of Apprenticeships, said: "We're absolutely delighted to have climbed to 4th place this year - an 18-place jump from 22nd in 2025, and a real testament to the hard work of everyone involved in our apprenticeship programmes.
“Apprentices play a vital role in keeping Britain's railway running safely and reliably, and we're proud to welcome around 300 new joiners this year across engineering, business, IT and finance. Our programmes give people hands-on experience, the chance to earn while they learn, and the skills to build long-term careers."
The ranking reflects ongoing investment in workforce development at a time when the rail industry faces significant demand for skilled engineers and technical specialists. Network Rail's apprenticeship programme offers structured career pathways and has a strong track record of retaining apprentices as full-time employees upon completion.
