Design and Build UK – Women in Construction Awards 2022
Please note: the Deadline for Nominations was 31st March 2022
Welcome to the long overdue Women in Construction Awards 2022 sponsored by recruitment experts Hays. This awards event is the first of its kind, industry leading and not to be missed.
Currently women make up 13% of the construction industry and 1% of site labour. Design and Build UK have been championing women since it was founded in 2010 and now we want to have a night dedicated to them, their companies and the people who support them.
The event will be at Park Plaza, London Riverbank on 2nd September 2022 and we invite you all to nominate anyone who you think is deserving of this award. There are 7 categories to be celebrated:
- Female Business Owner
- Female Apprentice
- Industry Pioneer
- Male Ally
- Female on the tools
- Female Led Project
- Inclusive Company
This event is not a typical affair – we are all aware of the skills gap shortage and the need to introduce more women into construction, as well as raise awareness of the potential of the industry to greater society. We are donating money raised to the Maggie Oliver Foundation which is a charity supporting women and girls who have suffered sexual and domestic abuse. The money will be used to introduce these women when the time is right to the construction industry, helping them to access a course which we have built with City and Guilds to get them on their first run of the ladder. This is a truly worthwhile cause and event and we encourage the industry to get behind and be part of.
Please nominate yourself, colleagues, friends and family.

The Maggie Oliver Foundation supports survivors of childhood sexual abuse and exploitation to turn the pain of their abuse into power. We shine a light on injustice and give a voice to those so often left powerless, working with trusted media partners when all other routes have failed. Everyone’s experience of sexual abuse is different. Without support, survivors are often isolated and alone, with no knowledge of where to turn for the help and advice they need to begin rebuilding their shattered lives. We provide a safe place for survivors to be heard.
“You are all absolutely fantastic. You shouldn’t be a charity, you should be a national service. You are saving lives”
“You have given me a voice to speak out and I want to make a difference because of the suffering I went through.”
