Getting a tour of the new sales centre and four show homes on Blackwater Drive were close to 30 guests including the Mayor, Cllr Patrick Lavelle, and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mike Coleman.

Both members of Great Dunmow Town Council were welcomed by the housebuilder’s directors and site team, in addition to representatives from the divisional subcontractors, mortgage brokers and solicitors.

All attendees were present to celebrate the community taking shape at the 326-home development.

Cllr Patrick Lavelle, said: “We are pleased to welcome Barratt and David Wilson Homes into Great Dunmow’s community. As well as the many new homes, Great Dunmow will benefit from pitch quality sports ground, a new sports pavilion, play areas and allotments, providing benefits for both established and new residents in the town.”

Great Dunmow Grange will deliver a selection of one to five bedroom properties, including bungalows, and will also accommodate 104 affordable homes.

As an exemplar for sustainable housebuilding, the development will have approximately 30% more biodiversity value being created than was there in the first place, which is above and beyond the government’s 10% target.

Accessibility is also a key part of the development’s design. In 5% of the properties, there will be Category 3 accessibility levels, which are wheelchair-user friendly, and built in accordance with Lifetime Homes Standards.

Tom Wright, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “The launch of Great Dunmow Grange was eagerly anticipated and it was wonderful to welcome local councillors, along with everyone who has made the development possible to celebrate the new community being built.

“We were able to discuss our exciting plans for the development and celebrate one of Essex’s newest neighbourhoods.

“It was a privilege to provide our guests with the first look at our four new show homes, all of which are now open to keen buyers looking for a place to call home in Great Dunmow.”

Some of the land at Great Dunmow Grange has been allocated for a primary school, play area and allotments, in addition to more than five hectares of pitch quality grounds, including pavilions, across the wider site.

Ducting for electric vehicle charging is also incorporated into selected homes, which is a great benefit for anyone looking to travel more sustainably.

The community will be a place for nature to thrive. Wildlife-friendly features have been installed, and there will be over seven hectares of green space and public open space for residents to enjoy.
