Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent South, Dr Allison Gardner, joined Barratt Homes at its Waterside development as work starts on the second phase of properties.
The constituency MP was invited to the canalside community on Chessington Crescent for a tour of the development now the housebuilder has entered the next stage of the growing neighbourhood.
During the tour of the development, Dr Gardner was given an insight into the energy-efficient features of the properties and viewed the show homes with Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes, alongside the housebuilder’s site and sales team in Trentham.
The MP was also able to see the progress made in the construction of Waterside, which has recently edged past the 55% sold mark.
Dr Allison Gardner MP said: “It was a pleasure to visit Barratt Homes in Trentham and see the energy-efficient features of their new properties first-hand. I had productive discussions with Rhys Nicholson and the team about key local concerns, including road resurfacing, the importance of green spaces, and protecting natural habitats. I’m pleased to hear their commitment to improving infrastructure and providing parks and outdoor areas for families.”
The 227-home community is now well-established and has become a sought-after location for property seekers due to the proximity to the Peak District, as well as the many commuting opportunities presented by Stoke-on-Trent’s access to the A50, M6 and M1.
Sustainability and ecology have been top priorities for Barratt Homes with more than 12 acres of open space being created across Waterside, alongside the planting of 1,231 new hedgerow saplings, 2,763 trees, and a biodiversity area onsite. There will also be 50 bird and bat boxes installed and bee-friendly planting to help care for the local wildlife.
On the green open space, residents at the development will be able to enjoy two children’s play areas, whilst selected homes will include car charging points and a total of 152 properties will feature solar or photovoltaic panels.
Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We were pleased to welcome Dr Gardner to our Waterside development to showcase our progress onsite now we have entered the second phase.
“Waterside is a beautiful location adjacent to the canal, and we look forward to helping more people progress on the property ladder and secure a modern, sustainable home.”
Barratt Homes’ Key Worker Deposit Contribution is available at Waterside, which gives those eligible a £1,000 contribution for every £20,000 spent on a property. According to the Office for National Statistics, this offer is applicable to 35.2% of Stoke-on-Trent’s workforce.
