Various site locations were investigated, that offered differing benefits. The solution agreed upon was to build an extension adjacent to the existing Sterile Services Department. The internal layout was been designed with significant input from the Trusts Head of Decontamination and reflects the latest requirements for JAG accreditation and will be fully compliant to HTM 01-06 Management and Decontamination of Flexible Endoscopes.
Once complete this will enable approximately 160 Endoscopes to be cleaned each day using 4No. Endoscope washer disinfectors. Expansion for future washers has been built into the design and this will allow the Trust to clean up to 375 scopes a day using 7 washers.
Tender submissions closed in May 2018, the contract was awarded to Gray & Sons Builders Ltd
Works commenced on site in late June 2018. The steel frame was erected in September 2018. During early November a temporary scaffold enclosure with temporary roof was completed to allow works to continue through the winter months unhindered.
Building works are due for completion in March 2019.
The site is enclosed on both sides by a live Maternity department and a very busy Sterile Services department; the Trust and Gray & Sons Ltd are working closely together to allow the day to day activities of a working hospital to continue with minimal disruption as possible
Project Budget of £2.5m
