Homes England Appoints John Sisk & Son Ltd to Design and Build First Highways Connection at the Northern Arc, Mid Sussex
• Contract value c. £8 million
• Construction expected to begin in summer 2020 which will deliver a bridge and link road to facilitate housing delivery at the Northern Arc
Following a call for contractors in February 2019, Homes England has appointed John Sisk & Son Ltd to carry out the £8 million contract to design and build a new bridge and link road at the eastern end of the Northern Arc development in Mid Sussex. The new connection will unlock the first phase of new homes being built by Countryside Properties at the eastern end of the site whilst also providing new development opportunities along the length of the new road.
The work will also include landscaping, drainage and utility works along the highway together with connections to new development plots.
The new bridge and link road will play a major role in relieving traffic pressure and starting to unlock the 200-hectre Northern Arc site which will provide approximately 3,500 new homes with supporting education, healthcare, community, employment and retail facilities.
Ken Glendinning, Project Director at Homes England said:
“The appointment of John Sisk & Son Ltd to design and build this first infrastructure contract is a major milestone for the delivery of the Northern Arc. It will ensure our accelerated investment in Burgess Hill supports the early delivery of new homes, a secondary and primary school, a neighbourhood centre and facilities for the local community by relieving traffic pressure and providing better connections.”
