Homebuilder’s Bright Idea For Staffordshire Pupils On Road Safety Week

Pupils at Doxey Primary School in Stafford are able to glow on the go after David Wilson Homes donated a number of reflective bag tags for Road Safety Week (19^th to 25^th November).

The Staffordshire housebuilder gave the school 100 hi-vis bag tags for its pupils to use whilst walking to and from school, in order to ensure they are easily seen on the roads as the darker nights draw in.

Road Safety Week takes place in the third week of November and teaches the critical issues of road safety and how safety systems work together to enable safe and healthy journeys for everyone.

Laura Lazenby, Headteacher at Doxey Primary School, said: “As a school at the heart of our community, lots of our children and families walk to school. The children are very keen to utilise these hi-vis bag tags to help them stay safe on their journey as the afternoons get darker.”

Findings from the Department for Transport, following the National Travel Survey,  identified that 49% of children between the ages of five and 10-years-old walked to school in 2022.

The donation from the homebuilder, based close to the school at its development The Lapwings, encourages pupils to stay active whilst making certain they remained visible during the darker nights and mornings.

Walking to school benefits children and their parents by increasing exercise and saving money on fuel, it can even increase social interaction with other families who choose to walk to school and prevent stress by not driving during rush hours.
