WORK will soon be underway to build new homes in Glastonbury after Elan Homes acquired land in the Somerset town.
The site, off Old Wells Road, on the edge of Glastonbury and spanning almost five acres, benefits from reserved matters approval for 60 new homes.
Elan has a reputation for building quality homes in desirable areas, having previously built new homes in nearby Somerton. The final few properties are now on sale at the company’s Weavers Field development in Castle Cary.
David Summers, Regional Managing Director from Elan Homes (Midlands), said: “Having completed the acquisition of land in Glastonbury, we’re looking forward to starting construction work on site to deliver much-needed new homes. Our scheme will help address the housing shortage in the area by providing open market homes of a size that are in high demand in the district, while also contributing to meeting Government targets and aiding Mendip Council in delivering affordable homes.”
There will be 42 homes available for private sale, offering a mix of two to five-bedroom homes including terraced, semi-detached and detached designs.
Elan will also build 18 affordable homes, providing one, two and three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached properties.
The homes will be built from materials including red brick, natural stone, reconstituted stone and render, with roofs made from slate and clay and concrete tiles.
Existing features will be integrated into the landscape plan. For example, part of an orchard will be retained and a sense of a small village green will be created. Additional planting will be carried out to ensure the development is a nature rich biodiverse community.
Recreational open space, including a children’s play area, will form part of the development with Elan contributing almost £63,000 towards open space provision.
In Arthurian literature Glastonbury is identified with the legendary island of Avalon and this has inspired the name of the development.
The first homes at Avalon are due to be released for sale in mid to late 2021. Elan has already begun building a database of people interested in the properties.
Potential purchasers can register their interest in the homes via the website https://www.elan-homes.co.uk/developments/avalon/ or by calling 01458888373.
