Hampshire-based Bargate Homes has submitted an Outline Planning Application for a 3.28Ha (8.2 acres) site in Medstead, Hampshire. Sitting within the East Hampshire District, the proposed development could see up to 70 homes delivered, including 40% allocated for affordable housing.
Located on Beechlands Road in Medstead, the development proposals for the site include a mix of homes in size and tenure, including one-, two-, three- and four- bedroom houses. Each of the properties would be built to a high EPC standard and have sustainable features included as standard, such as air source heat pumps, EV charging points and PV solar panels, allowing future residents to benefit from a lower carbon footprint and reduced energy bills.
The proposed development would contribute to the supply of housing in the District, which historically has been undersupplied. Providing an increase in choice available for open market and affordable housing in the area, the scheme could greatly benefit the local community and economy. The on-site affordable housing provision would be delivered to VIVID, parent company of Bargate Homes.
Mark White, Managing Director of Bargate Homes, said: “We are delighted to have submitted an outline planning application for this site in Medstead. This new development would provide an opportunity for both families and first time buyers to move onto or up the housing ladder in this beautiful part of Hampshire.
“This prime site is in an accessible location close to the village of Four Marks, the larger town of Alton, and the sought after city of Winchester. Our proposed plans deliver high quality and energy efficient homes to benefit both the local community and future residents for generations to come.”
Allocated car parking would be created across the site, with bike stores and cycle parking provision for each dwelling. The site shall deliver a net gain of biodiversity and the creation of open public spaces, including a children’s play area, for future residents and those already living locally.
There are a variety of amenities just under a mile from the development site. The A31 runs parallel to Medstead, which provides access to the M3 and wider motorway network. Medstead is a 25 minute drive from the historic city of Winchester, which boasts a vibrant shopping centre and Winchester Cathedral. Frequent train services to central London can be accessed via Winchester Train station, with a journey time of one hour. The site is also accessible on foot to Chawton Park Woods which has links to the National Cycle Network, as well as the wider network of public rights of way to explore the open countryside.
Established in 2006, Bargate Homes is a wholly owned subsidiary of VIVID – Hampshire’s largest provider of affordable homes. The company delivers select developments in prime locations across Hampshire, Dorset, and West Sussex. 300 homes are currently under construction across six live developments, supported by a pipeline of future sites expected to deliver in excess of 2,500 new homes.
