Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out business, has completed construction of Luminous Oak Academy in Eastleigh, Hampshire, on behalf of Hampshire County Council and Solent Academies Trust.

The school, awarded under the Southern Construction Framework, will accommodate 125 children aged 8 – 16 years with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The project comprised a two-storey compact L-shaped building, which includes 15 general teaching classrooms, six specialist practical classrooms and a high needs facility. The scheme also features therapy spaces, group rooms, a fitness suite and learning resource areas.

Externally there are separate playground areas with play equipment, canopies, soft surfacing areas, a sports pitch, multi‑use games area, landscaped areas and a large access road including drop off areas and car park.

Throughout the scheme, Tilbury Douglas focused on local and small and medium enterprise (SME) spend, as well as creating three direct local jobs, more than 85 apprenticeship weeks and a range of education, careers and community engagement activities. The project has also supported local skills and employability through apprenticeships, work placements and qualifications, alongside community engagement with local schools, colleges and Botley Parish Council.

Paul Gale, Regional Director – South West at Tilbury Douglas, said: "We are delighted to have completed Luminous Oak Academy, working collaboratively with Hampshire County Council and Solent Academies Trust, we've created a facility that will help young people thrive, while delivering lasting value for the local community. We look forward to seeing the positive impact the school will have for many years to come."
