Over the last six months Amey has won a series of industry awards with the most recent win at the Construction News Awards 2018 for Amey’s approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I).
The latest win follows the Highways team picking up the top prize in the Equality and Diversity category at the prestigious CIHT Awards that took place in London in June and for Lisa Ingram, Head of Business Improvement, who was recognised at the New Civil Engineer Recognising Women in Engineering event. Amey has also collected top accolades in ED&I categories at the RIDI Awards, Rail Partnership Awards and Woman in Rail Awards.
The awards reflect the approach Amey has taken to putting inclusion at the heart of everything it does, with bespoke training programmes and support networks to meet the diverse needs of employees, as well as community engagement programmes, such as a unique take on the STEM ambassador role, where it has undertaken traditional engagement activities as well as creating learning material for schools to bring Engineering to life in the class room.
Amey’s Highways teams has also received recognition in other categories at industry awards this year. Teams in Scotland were recognised at the Scottish Transport Awards for their work on re-galvanising the vehicle restraint systems in the Most Innovative category as well as operative James Dalgarno being Highly Commended in the Employee of the Year category.
James Kleiman, Bridge Technician Apprentice, also won the most promising Technician at the CECA Scotland Emerging Talent Awards at the start of the year showing outstanding development and promise.
James Haluch, Managing Director for Highways, praised the teams for the industry recognition their work is receiving as Amey continue to move to the forefront when it comes to innovation, ED&I and maximising the potential of its people.
He said: “What we’ve achieved this year across a range of projects is a fantastic achievement and something that I’m truly proud of. We’ve received industry awards for collaboration, innovation, people development, equality and diversity – all themes that run through our strategic objectives to achieve our goal of, creating better places to live, work and travel.
“Receiving this recognition is only the beginning though. We have a clear plan in place to build on these successes and continue to develop solutions which help us to deliver great service for our all customers.”
Amey teams in the midlands embraced the value of putting people first by investing in the upskilling of their workforce and providing sustainable educational opportunities for future talent to be part of the business. These innovative initiatives were recognised at the West Midlands Construction Awards in the People Development category and also at the West Midlands ICE Awards.
Amey’s innovative approaches and collaborative partnerships won three awards at the East Midlands Asset Delivery Annual Awards and a further three awards for large projects, small projects and the Judges Merit award at the IHE Mercia Awards.
The team also picked up the top prize in the category Medium Project at the West Midlands ICE Awards for the work to create a gateway to a new housing, business and leisure development in Staffordshire.
